Last month, the Federal Tribunal in Lausanne found the Income Tax Act unconstitutional because of its regressive nature, not based on economic demands. Under this Act, for individuals with annual incomes over CHF300'000 tax should be lowered from 2.35% to 1%. Those who earn up to CHF70'000 paid to 8%, while those who earn up to CHF300'000 would be charged to 6%.

While the figures show the success of the Swiss tax regime to attract foreign capital, the system was under attack the European Union, although Switzerland is not a member of the EU. According to Brussels, the Swiss tax law is incompatible with the treaty of 1972 on trade between Switzerland and the EU, as it «distorts trade and competition».
