According to Swiss tax law, the cantons may fully or partially exempt profits earned abroad from cantonal and municipal income tax. All Swiss cantons have this situation, each in its own way. The EU claims that this allows European companies registered in Switzerland and to avoid taxes in EU countries. Moreover, the EU is trying to sue the Federal Government under the EU laws on state aid. It was not very clear on what they expect, because Switzerland are not included in the EU.
