The Law on Financial Services will replace the Law on the development of financial services in 2001 and create a common system of licensing and supervision of all financial services, except for banking, as well as the global business sector. The new law stipulates the independence of the Financial Services Commission as a regulatory body. In addition, the Law on financial services re-defines the concept of global business. Under the new provisions, all resident companies engaged in activities outside Mauritius may choose an alternative legal regime. Eliminated earlier restrictions on the activities of the Global Business Company Category 1. The law also defines the industry associations in all sectors of financial services as the Intelligent Organization.
